My client a well known tertiary institution in Pretoria has a position available for an IT Analyst.  The IT Analyst position includes two main roles namely that of requirements analysis and system analysis.  Depending on the specific business need, the incumbent should be able to apply the appropriate methodologies, standards and tools to deliver either a requirements analysis specification document or a technical design specification document.


Minimum/Essential Requirements:

  • A relevant Bachelor's degree (e.g. B.Sc Computer Science, B.Com. Informatics, B. Eng., B.Tech.).
  • Relevant courses in Business Analysis.


  • A National Diploma in Information Technology. 
  • Relevant courses in Business Analysis. 
  • Minimum experience: 5 years relevant experience in case of a Bachelors degree and 6 years relevant experience in case of a National Diploma. This should include:
  • Practical experience in business and/or systems analysis methodologies, processes, tools, techniques and best practices.
  • Experience in facilitating JAD sessions.
  • Experience in business process modelling.
  • Experience in data modelling (data flow diagrams and entity relationship modelling).
  • Experience in making recommendations on system design and/or custom applications.
  • Experience in investigating and resolving application functionality related issues.
  • Experience in working with relational databases, web and client-server concepts.


Recommended Requirements:

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification.
  • Course in business process management.
  • Course in business process mapping.
  • Experience in:
  • Analysis and design of complex systems.
  • Performing complex system integration work.
  • Working at a tertiary education institution.
  • Performing requirements analysis in business areas such as human resources, finance and student support.

  • Liaise with various business units to gather business requirements and resolve issues.
  • Identify and document business rules to create a central repository for business rules and processes.
  • Analyse business processes and relate them into business-enabling solutions to improve the workflow and business processes supported by the various underlying system applications.
  • Contribute to enterprise architecture development from a business and/or system requirement point of view.
  • Identify and document enterprise architecture designs, standards, processes and procedures to maintain the central repository with updated system documentation.
  • Review, analyse and occasionally modify systems including coding, testing, debugging and providing support for application systems.
  • Document custom configuration requirements for software applications in order to liaise with service providers and application development consultants.
