Community Journalist - Radio/print(speak Xhosa) in Mthatha

Location:
Eastern Cape (Mthatha)

Contract: 
• 12 Months - January to December 2012

Location: 
• Mthatha Eastern Cape 

Work hours: 
• A minimum of 40 hours per week, a maximum of 72 hours per week. 
• Hours depend on the research required, pre-production, on location recording and post production requirements. 
• There will often be weekend and public holiday work.

Job entails: 
• Researching community-based stories related to HIV and AIDS prevention in communities throughout Alfred Nzo and O.R Tambo districts. 
• Applicants must be prepared to travel. 
• Writing treatments for the stories and recording the stories for Radio broadcast. 
• Working closely with the project staff in the Eastern Cape office as well as the Cape Town head office. 
• Handing in all admin work related to the production of the story. 
• Shortlisted candidates must be prepared to undergo competency testing and Credit/ITC checks. 
• Shortlisted candidates will be expected to attend a health literacy training programme. 
• Attendance to this training will not guarantee a position, but all costs will be covered.

Requirements

• Three year Journalism/Film/Radio making qualification or 
• Tertiary qualification in a similar area of expertise
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English and isiXhosa
